I am not sure which section to put this in but I am wondering if I have found an error with the schematic ‘choose symbol’ box.
I am asking for a search for a decade counter and only get cd4033, cd 4033 outputs a 7 segment display output so is not really a decade counter though the data sheets call it a decade counter/divider. It does not output a decade counter signal.
The cd4017 is a decade counter with 10 outputs but the ‘choose symbol’ box calls it a johnson counter and doesn’t show it when a decade counter is asked for.
Is this an error that could fairly easily be rectified?
And there are plenty of other decade counters, old and older. 74390, 7490. Some others are or were available as decade or binary counter. 74161 and so on.
It seems the description field of those symbols are in error. Please submit a bug report to the Gitlab repo for the KiCad symbol library from Help > Report Bug.
The 4017 is a tricky one. It is a 1 of 10 as well as a decade counter, and, if I remember rightly, tying an output to the reset will give you a count one less than the output that is tied. ie, tie 8 to reset will give a one of 7 output and the carry stays low.
