Can't place a junction

In the Schematic Editor v9.01 running on Win 10 x64 I can create a junction symbol but can’t place on the schematic it by clicking any mouse button. I didn’t find a ‘place’ command or command bar icon or a similar menu option. A junction refuses to be placed this way.

Is there any work-around ? Have any nightly builds addressed this issue yet ?

Add: I’m trying to create a ‘T’ connection.Thanks

I’m not aware of issues regarding the placement of junction dots on kicad 9.0.x

But some notes:

  • A junction dot can only be placed if there is already a 3-way (T) or 4-way crossing of wires. Additionally the crossing must be placed exactly on the grid
  • If the junction command (“Place Junction” from the right toolbar) is not succesful then a yellow warning message should appear on the top of the schematic editor
  • normally it’s not necessary to place junction - just draw the wires starting (or ending) from a already existing wire places the junction dot automatically

I solved the bug by installing v8.0.7 - Now it works exactly as expected! Perhaps this is a Windows-only bug, but this bug does really exist, at least on my Windows installation.

A picture of where you are placing the junction would help

Not sure why you mean by “place a junction”. You can’t drop a junction on an existing piece of wire. Placing a junction is when you need to turn a crossover into a connection. As such I don’t go placing junctions because most of the time the schematic editor does the right thing. A junction is created when there is no ambiguity. It’s only in cases where a crossover or a junction could be wanted that you need to decide.

One possibility is your wires are off-grid.

As said, show us a picture.

v8.0.9 (You should use that instead of v8.0.7 since v8.0.9 is the last stable release in v8.)

Using 9.0.1

But you failed to get the “spring” to stretch.

You mean that I did not drag the resistor after wiring it in?

What a drag! I must offer the “piece de resistance”! That was my Hollywood Video.

I understand it was a side-joke about the resistor-symbol that looks like a spring and is only standardised in the USA.

You also have problems with junction dots
See inside Q1 and then inside D1.

In KiCad 9.0.2 on windows it works

Further to @mf_ibfeew 's comments:

Junctions may be placed from either the “Place” menu or the RH Junction icon.
Note the warning at the top of the workspace if a junction placement is attempted anywhere other than a three, or more, intersection of wires.

Check your wires are all on the same suitable grid and also check that your wires actually connect.

Since placing junctions works on v8.0.7 and not on v9.0.1 the problem is in v9.0.1. For Windows x64 there are no stable released versions v8.0.7+ and v9.0.1 .

Have you checked here: https://downloads.kicad.org/kicad/windows/explore/stable?

Have you re-read my and @mf_ibfeew 's above post and checked your work thoroughly?

OK, so you obviously need to upgrade to V9.0.2 as juntions work in that version . . .

You certainly have outdated information.
I have 8.0.9 installed at Windows 64bit.
I’m not switching to V9 yet, but I know 9.0.2 was released 2 weeks ago.

You are certainly right! Don’t know how I missed them the first times around. :flushed:
