Hello I’m building my first schematic diagram and some of the components are missing from the library. I downloaded the Mac version of KiCad.
Which version of kicad did you install? Do you have any of the libraries?
I have a symbol for this part in Transistor_BJT library. Does this library exist for you? (Is it on the file system?)
I installed the one for MacOS 10.14 (https://kicad.org/download/osx/). And no, I do not have the Transistor_BJT library either 
you get your version info via help->about->copy version info. (I am not going to hire a detective to find the info i need to help you. You must provide it as requested.)

well within kicad use the top menu entry help. then click on about and then on copy version info

Whoops, yes I meant 2N3 904 but I am still unable to find it in the libraries.
On MacOS, the version information is under the KiCad menu -> About KiCad -> Copy Version information.
My guess is that you need to download the “unified” version.
