Cannot grab small components in schematic editor

Hi all,

I’ve noticed a weird issue with grabbing small components in the schematic editor.

Given the PCB above, if I try to grab the small resistor it doesn’t work unless I force it to by ignoring the DRC with Ctrl+Click. But there aren’t any indicators that any traces or pads are crossing.

Any ideas as to why? I probably need to change some setting but I’m not sure what.

Here is a zoomed in picture of the resistor

I had absolutely 0 problems with grabbing footprints in KiCad V5. It was easy and footprint (its anchor) always was positioned in grid (I use 0.1mm). The higher KiCad number it is going to be more and more difficult.
Few days ago I found that in my latest PCB the USB socked is located 0.02mm off grid. Fortunately it is not a problem, but how it could have happened?

You’re using the layout editor.

Hey,

If using the PCB Editor>trying hiding the layers except for the one you find your component on and grab it that way.
If you are are in the wrong editor (it seems you are using the pcb editor not schematic editor), Id try switching to your schematic editor, and highlighting the component if it wont let you grab it.

There are at least 2 things which you have to clarify:

  • the headline says “schematic editor”, but the pictures are from the layout editor?
  • you talk about “Grab”, but there is no “grab” command in the hotkey table. What do you mean?

Apart from that I see in the second picture (zoom of R4) that the clearance of pad1 and pad2 are overlapping. The footprint is too small for your current design constraint settings.

Notice also that it would be good if you write a short sentence about the used kicad version in the opening post. Often the answer depends on that information, and providing it in the first place prevents unnecessary questions.
