I am using KiCad 6. I have a file named MyFeet. It is seen as MyFeet.pretty and has a bunch of kicad_mod files I have created. When I start KiCad, I have the option of starting Footprint Editor initially before opening my working folder. I add MyFeet library as Global. I then open my file of interest (schematic). I cannot find MyFeet when I try a footprint assignment.
It started working. I guess the few minutes it took to write my ask as well as restarting KiCad allowed the software to find the file.
