Can you save a layer in DXF file

I would like to export my Fab file to DXF so I can import into Vcarve to build mounting panels

Hi @James_Cullins

If there’s no way to do it directly in that format (I don’t know that it does), pcbnew has export directly to svg format and from the Vcarve forums that’s an acceptable format for import since there’s chatter about using inkscape to create the designs. If the svg directly from KiCad doesn’t fit the bill, opening it in inkscape and following one of the Vcarve tutorials might be needed as an extra step.

I’ve not done it, but it appears plausible with not too many steps.

Cheers!
Geoff

Thanks Geoff

I will give it a go

I found how to output DXF It came right into Vcarve Great!

When you start to gen your gerber files there is a drop down that shows DXF, just select the Fab and cutout layer.

There is also one for the DRILL files

Thanks
