Can i use the cmp file to back annotate the schematic?

I tried this for changing the references. I changed CN6, J1, J2, to CN1, CN2, CN3 in PCBNew. Then created the .cmp file. Then imported that into the schematic as you described and the reference numbers did not change.

Version: (5.1.4)-1, releasle build

Is there something I need to do to enable back annotation? The process is pretty basic so I’m at a loss for why the references are not updating.

This is different than the original poster’s problem. But I followed your procedure and saw the same. However, as the name says, it’s “footprint association”. It means the symbol/footprint combination. Maybe it’s not meant to backannotate the reference designators at all.

Real backannotation is available in the development version nightly builds (5.99) and will be part of 6.0.
