[BUG?] Setup menu missing, Pcbnew 5.1.5-3 Windows 64Bit, Win 10 (SOLVED)

Setting a 6 mil trace width kept hitting the minimum width limit, and the PCBnew reference said to use the Setup menu pull-down to set that limit. But the text pull-downs on my copy of Pcbnew are:
File Edit View Place Route Inspect Tools Preferences Help
Note that Setup, which should appear between View and Place, is not there.

I downloaded another copy of the install file and did a binary compare with the one I installed from. No difference, so not a corrupted exe.

I scanned back through topics until I went crosseyed, then decided to ask.

Is this a known bug, or …

Presumably that parameter is held in a readable file somewhere, and I could potentially edit that file. Is there any documentation that would tell me how?

I think what you are looking for is:

File -> Board Setup…

That is also the fourth icon on the top icon toolbar

Actually, I got that far but did not tell quite the whole story.
Under Files/Board setup, I find Layers and Design rules. Design rules has two daughters that look promising, but…
When I try to change Track width to 6 under Net Classes I get the complaint that the minimum is 7.87 mils (0.2 mm)…
When I try to add a track width of 6 under Tracks and Vias, I get the same complaint.
I can’t find where the magic value 7.87 (or 0.2) comes from.
That is when I went to the pcbnew reference document…
It leads me to expect that the Setup pull-down would let me set that minimum limit.
But That pull-down is not there.
Looking for it, and not finding it led to the post.

But back to Files/Board Setup. If it really is equivalent to the missing Setup pull-down, how do I use it to set that width limit?

This is often confusing for beginners. In the settings windows, not only are there settings pages for the leaves (what you are calling daughters), but also on the branches. In the Files/Board setup window, click on the Design rules branch and you should see the settings for the design minimum.

Thanks. I see it now.

No mystery why beginners have trouble with that. I would say that window is well hidden. I have been using KiCad for about ten years and I hadn’t expected a new version to make me back into a beginner.

Not your fault. Again, thanks.

This indeed has been problematic, and therefore it was changed for the future major version:

(Only the “daughters” have content.)

Great News! I never liked the original method.

Yes. Solved, but I’m indeed a beginner on this forum, and I don’t see how to mark it solved. Doubtless it will be embarrassingly obvious when you tell me how.

IIRC you can edit the subject of a thread you have started.
