Board View Broken

Currently in KiCad 8.06 (updated to KiCad 8.0.7, issue persists). This one PCB seems to be missing everything. Not only the components and tracks, but also the drawing sheet.

However, the 3D view still has everything as it should be:

Restarting KiCad or my PC didn’t resolve this issue. Other boards don’t have this issue either.

Things I did which might have caused this bug:

  • installing KiCad 9 in parallel and opening (not saving) this project
  • accessing this PCB via Microsoft Remote Desktop

Opening it in KiCad 9 has the same issue. I think this is a bug and I’ll open an issue for it.

I think it looks fine (you can see some kind of shape there). It’s just zommed out a lot. Did you try to zoom in?

? did you even look at my screenshots?

As you can see, the front silkscreen and edge cuts are there, the back silkscreen, copper layers etc are not there. When I try to route a track I can also see that there are tracks there, just not rendered:

Also, just so you know, I’ve been using KiCad since 10 years, almost every day in the last three years. I’m well aware how it should look and when it looks wrong.

Issue: Broken PCB Rendering (#19540) · Issues · KiCad / KiCad Source Code / kicad · GitLab

Whats your Appearance panel / Objects setting?

I’m not sure what you mean, this one?

But FYI, all other boards with the same KiCad version look fine. I think it is something broken with the other project. Feel free to open it yourself, I attached it to the issue on GitLab.

OK I see now: all disabled. Moreover workheet file not attached to the project, so it does not open correctly.

The working PCB uses the same worksheet and it is on the same PC in the same KiCad instance. Also I’m not sure what you mean with “all disabled”?

WTF. I 100% did not disable them. I closed KiCad yesterday when everything was fine and today it was broken. Not sure how that happened?

That you for spotting that. I didn’t even bother checking that menu because I never use it and therefore didn’t even think of it.

Maybe there’s some keyboard shortcut attached… or a cat jumping on keyboard… or a parrot toying with it

FYI, according to the devs it is due to changes in the kicad_prl file that are applied when opening it in v9, this caused the issue!
