I am on a win11 computer and am having an issue with the board layout part keeps locking up. I have un-installed, rebooted and reinstalled but no good. Looking for suggestions on how to fix it. I really like KiCAD and am looking forward to using it a lot.
Check to see whether an update is available for your video driver
To try clear Install after un-installing you should also delete C:\Users\{User}\AppData\Roaming\kicad.
Looks like that fixed the problem. tks
Suppose that you don’t have the directory contents that made program to lock.
I usually recommend to rename the configuration directory instead of deleting it. If you rename it, then KiCad can’t find it anymore, so it creates a new one with defaults.
I have at one PC ‘my’ installation and at the second ‘clear’ installation (to report bugs). It is why installing each version I deleted there this directory and never considered old contents can be useful. For me it is just a method to have clear install and never used it to solve any problems. Because of this I didn’t got on time the idea to preserve what potentially can be helpful to find a bug.
My second PC is still with Win7 so I haven’t gotten the clear V6 installation yet.
Storage space is cheap.
My most used method for making backups or renaming directories or files is to add a date in ISO_8601 format. It’s always easy to see when I did such a thing, and when I see a file with such a date in it’s name, I know it’s some backup or left over from an experiment.
Normally I do make a copy. Did not this time.
