Board Editor Performance

9.1

If you select the board and drag it across the desktop, one processor core is used.

How it’s possible to drag the “board” across “desktop”?

So is there a problem in 9.1 or 9.0?

In version 9.0, the graphics work without jerks, but when moving the dedicated board and moving it, only one processor core is loaded; in version 9.1, the graphics slow down and one core is loaded.

Are they showing the same GPU in full version info?

A post was split to a new topic: PCB display slows down if contact pads are enabled on 9.0.1rc1 on Fedora 41

yes open gl is used rx6400

I find this particular project slow to pan when zoomed out on an all Intel HP laptop on V9.0.1 rc1.
But as I have said above, this project is 90% spurious layers and via apertures on inner layers drawn using drawn arc rather than just using the zone filling. Using a single core is inevitable if the task cannot be multi threaded - very likely.

I shall raise an issue that KiCad is not detecting the fp-line elements on the non-existent “User.5” and “User.9” layers. Detecting errors in the pcb file is nice to do. These might arise from import from another CAD or changing layer stackup.

Moving the board editor window and moving the board itself within the editor window

at least there are two problems, one is the display of layers, the second is the graphic performance of the board editor

Some more digging and I have found that the footprints eg R33 have up to User.9 layers and that there is a lot of purchasing information in the footprint.
Someone has been using the PCB file as their database, hence the bloated file size.

The peculiar polygon keep outs on Inner.3 under the bga package are an attempt to place a keepout on the layer beneath blind vias to minimize capacitance

I made a short video it concerns the performance of the 9.1 candidate and the latest test build in 9.0 there are no such problems tested on 4 different machines and two different projects

I checked today on the nightly build 9.1, the problem remains, I hope it doesn’t get into the stable 9.1

have you opened this issue on gitlab? today i checked the latest build nothing has changed the pcb window is very slow unlike version 9.0

I didn’t. You can create issues by yourself.

have you noticed any abnormal behavior in the preview window? i want to make sure it’s not just on my machines.

I haven’t tested on complex boards for a while. So I didn’t notice anything abnormal.

This is if you have the desire)

This one contains a large number of zero length track segments and other errors. After a cleanup, panning is much faster

Yes, but in 9.0 everything is fine and without cleaning and it does not load at 100 percent one core when moving the cursor

After todays update to 9.0.1 rc2.6, which avoids redrawing pads all the time, panning seems smoother
