I only see a BC550 in the default library given. Is there an external library out there that contains this transistor or are the BC550 and BC550C the same thing?

As far as KiCad is concerned, they are the same thing.
They have the same Symbol.
They have the same Footprint.
As @joost mentioned, they are not exactly electrically similar.
