Is there a way in KiCAD to assign a part number to the bare PCB separate from the PCB assembly? I am coming from Eagle where I always named the project files the bare PCB part number and did the bill of materials outside of Eagle.
Using KiCAD now I would like to take advantage of the BOM generator. In some cases I may have multiple assembly part numbers using the same bare pcb number. The difference being some parts that are not populated on one.

not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but sometimes I put the bare PCB part number into a symbol on the schematic. so then when I go to create the BOM it’s listed just like all the other parts. then you can customize it for whatever the client’s system needs.
