Hello Members
First time forum user here, so thank you in advance.
I have created a new component, which is a high current vertical post.
The footprint of the component has 25 legs for soldering to the pcb.
I have three of this type component on the pcb, and each is assigned a different net.
My question is…how can I assign each pad on a component to a net in one go?..rather than doing it tediously one by one.
Again, thanks for any assistance
I’m guessing you are working directly on the PCB layout without going through a schematic?
Pins/pads are assigned to nets by drawing wires at schematic.
Yes…backwards I know…but🤷♂️
Is there a way to do it?
Well if you think about it, you have to tell the software what’s connected to what. So you do that by drawing a schematic, or assigning nets to the pads. You could disable the net checking in the interactive router settings, but then you’ll have no safety net.
“or assigning nets to the pads”
Thats what I want to do.
Lets step aside from schematics…and assume there is none…never will be.
Can multiple pads be assigned to a single net in one go…or…do they need to be done individually?
Please for my mental health…if you dont know, dont respond.
Thank you.
Ok, I played around a bit and here’s how to do it:
-
Assume that a net called GND already exists in the layout.
-
Enable View > Show Properties Manager
-
Select the pads to be changed with Ctrl-Click, or selection rectangle or whatever. Here I have chosen all the odd numbered pads in a DIP-8 footprint.
-
One of the dropdowns in the Properties Manager is Net. Choose GND and it will be assigned to all the selected pads.
-
Voila the GND net is assigned to multiple pads.
You owe me a beer.
