When you open the Assign Footprints menu, you are presented with a list of all symbols on the schematic. I don’t see any way to sort this list. Also, I tried the Properties Viewer window, I don’t see any field to change the footprint.
Specifically, I have dozens and dozens of capacitors in a design, and I want to change the footprints of just certain ones from ceramic to tantalum footprint.
Looks sorted to me:
You might find the Tools > Edit Symbol Fields or Edit > Change Symbol menus more useful.
Ah, sorry, I didn’t make it clear. I mean, sort by other fields. It seems to be sorted by reference designator by default (a reasonable choice). But in my case, I’d like to sort the list by part value, so all the 10 uF capacitors will be grouped together.

I wasn’t aware that we could change footprints in this menu. Great to know.
