Here is a PKGBUILD and binaries to install KiCad 8 on Arch Linux:
Thank you for providing KiCad 8 on Arch Linux.
Using Manjaro, after installing your package, the packet manager now keeps suggesting to update to 8.99. What shall I do? I would like to stay on the stable Release 8 and not update to the real nightly.
I don’t use graphical package managers, but apparently, it is handling updates from the AUR as well. You could rename the package to something other than kicad-nightly. You could also update with the pacman
command line utility until v8 gets into the official feeds.
kicad-nightly
should not be used as a package name for anything other than a nightly version, which at the moment is 8.99.
Here you go:
Testing and will upload a new package shortly.
Note, that this still uses the kicad-nightly directories, so you can’t install the kicad-nightly from the AUR at the same time. This is a quick hack until the official Arch feeds get KiCad 8, so it does not make sense to do a bunch of packaging work for a short-term workaround.
Thanks. That’s what I was afraid of. In the meantime I’ll simply ignore the update suggestion.
Uploaded a new binary if you want a pre-built one:

Hopefully, this will get rid of your update suggestion.
KiCad 8 is now in main Arch feeds, so please use that instead of the hack above.
