An automated way have having silkscreen on both sides of through hole parts in PCB module editor

I have created some composite modules that will accept either through-hole or SMT components, hence I’d like the silkscreen to show the component id (C1, R1 etc) and lines on both sides of the board. I can’t see how to do this

I would expect to create this information in the module editor. You can right click on a graphic line, select edit, and edit/specify the layer so you can draw it twice superimposed; but I can’t see any setting to choose which layer text is to be located (and how to write it in mirror form)

Any help or pointers much appreciated

You mean free text or fields? Which KiCad release?

2013.07.07-BZR4022_Win version of Kicad.
I mean component id (C1, R1 etc) text need to be on both sides of the board, but there no any setting to choose which layer this text is to be located

Indeed. In this branch of KiCad there was limited set of options. Please consider upgrade to 4.0.x and migrate your projects and libraries to achieve options that you need.
