All other ratsnests disappear during component move?

I’m considering switching from Eagle, but one of my concerns is not among the things I’ve seen people argue about in the Eagle-KiCad wars. The last time I tried KiCad a few years ago, and still in recent demo videos I’ve seen, I notice that when I move a component on a PCB layout, the ratsnests for all the other components disappear when I’m moving a selected component. I find that a hinderance because I like to see potential crossovers when I’m placing parts, even before I have most traces placed. If all the other ratsnests disappear, I feel blind when placing parts.

Question 1: Was I doing something wrong, and should the other ratsnests not go blank?
Question 2: Am I the only one who finds this limiting? It may sound silly, but I feel it’s a real show stopper for me.

Thanks

This is not the default setting. You must have enabled local ratsnest view mode (a button on either the left or right toolbar can not quite remember which one.)

I just made my 2nd video screen capture in my life.
The other ratsnests are shown, whether “local ratstnest view” is on or off.

That’s not what I see. This 1-year old video also show the other ratsnest blanking out while a part is moved (at 13:40). Why is it different than your video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlDOnSHkX2c&t=207s

Because there is a new version of kicad?

Yes! Kicad 5 appears to fix it. I was reluctant to do the 1GB download without knowing.
