In v6, when I go to move things (most noticeable with pads and text objects), they seemed to always snap to other pads and footprint centers… and once the cursor “snapped”, if I move the cursor carefully, I could stay “snapped” to the horizontal or vertical position of the snap.
In v7, none of this happens. Moving things won’t snap in the first place, and if it does, I have to “put it down” if I want to “lock in” its position on one axis.
Am I missing something, or was this extremely useful feature removed in v7?
At least the snapping is still present in version v7.
Do you have checked your settings in global Preferences–>pcb editor–>Editing options–>magnetic points?
It’s not working for me. Try grabbing a F.Fab text, in particular, and place it just off-center of a footprint or pad. I can’t do it at all; it won’t snap to pads or footprint centers, and when it does snap to something, it doesn’t stay aligned with the snap point.
ok, this example gives a little bit more information.
And yes, the snapping of text-items seems to have changed.
With v6 textitems snapped to items on the same layer and to footprint anchors.
With v7 textitems snapped only to items on the same layer.
The other change… in v6, if I’m moving a pad and snap it to another pad, if I then carefully move the mouse only horizontally, the pad will stay snapped to the vertical location of my target. I don’t seem to be able to do that in v7 in one step. (If I “drop” the pad on top of the target, then move it a second time, I get the usual snapping of a movement to only-horizontal or only-vertical.)
