have existing project which has header pins, wanting to remove them and add ISA 72pin 36 position (36Top, 36 Bottom) edge connectors to existing board layout.
I wish you lots of success with your project.
Do yo also have a question?
Maybe you’re looking for the “BUS_AT” connector in KiCad’s default libraries. You can also find it by just searching for “ISA” in the search box for footprints.
But I tend to go the other way. Gold plating is a nuisance for small quantity projects, and also more expensive then just adding a connector.
Paul is correct. The header cost is low. I’ve tried to buy the female plastic mating edge connectors to make extender cards for older equipment. There are VERY few to chose from these days. In small quantities, the vendors don’t even want to talk to you. Edge conn have already gone obsolete.
???
These are not made separately (or at least, that would be very unusual). Normal production method is just the correct lines on Edge.Cuts and pads on copper layers, with a note to the manufacturer for the correct surface finish. And it’s this extra surface finish that makes it fall ouside of the cheap PCB pooling services. It can still be done, and it’s probably cost effective for mass production, but for small series, the extra handling cost just because it’s outside of the normal workfow is likely to exceed the cost of a separate connector. So at least check some prices before you commit to designing your PCB.
IMHO, the hardest thing is getting the card-edge to connector spacing right. If you need the card to plug into a PC, and have the metal bracket hold it in place, the spacing is kind of critical.
thank you all for your replies, all info is great info, i have a board that all these wire are soldered to the pins on and well i i am just going to make it fit inline with the harness. it is for a few of my games.
it is here
so that harness plugs to my game my board i want to put in-between the game and harness. i belive those are ISA. so currently the edge connector has been cut off and soldered to the board. im putting it back andjust want to creat a boards with tab, edge connectors for the male and i can do through hole for a female edge connector or a solder pad and just solder it. but i would be making 35 of these. so im looking into all of your comment to help steer me in the direction i would like to go.
I would like to build something like this
s-l1600.webp (1472Ă—1104)
but place my hardware on it
thank you
Your picture shows 72 pins but ISA has 62 pins.
Just looked at AliExpress. There are plenty of 72 pin connectors there and NES comes up. Are you playing on a NES?
no no NES, the 2nd pic was more for board ref. the first are 72pin 36 pos and a 20pin 10 pos for pwr.
i was thinking that the ISA is about the same spacing, need to scratch the ISA.
these harness are what power my Platinum Games (Platinum 4 Lightning Edition - Banilla Games) just looking to build a board with edge connectors on component side and solder.
Ok but check the dimensions carefully. Besides the finger pitch, there could be differences in the width and length of the fingers and so on. Also you may or may not need a key slot. Don’t assume that your connector is identical to the ISA connector.
thank you for the help! and correct i will not need a key slot
