I am a new guy for the kicad. i just downloaded the kicad 4.07 weeks ago, now the kicad5 is online,
it add some very good new function, but i notice it seem kicad6 is on the way, so i just want to know how long the kicad6 will be released. if the time is very short, i want to still use the kicad4 which i enjoy very much, then skip the kicad5, go to kicad6.
so i will be very thankful if anyone can tell me how long kicad6 will take.
KiCad 5 has just been released and it is definitely worth upgrading to.
KiCad 6 is just the next release and the work/planning is moving to that.
If you need to ask, V5.0.0 is for you.
“V6” for now is a development build and will become very unstable later this year.
KiCad 4 was released 2015/11
Right after that, KiCad 5 was on the way… it took around 3 years until KiCad 5 was released.
The fact that there exists a v6 roadmap was because there were features and changes that will break or introduce much difference in the v5, so they need to be postponed for a latter stage.
On this v5, about 1 … 1.5 years was about feature freezing and just bug fixing.
Are you ok to wait some more years for a new release version?
