Yesterday I was working on an adapter board. I needed to download some data from the internet. I “think” I left Kicad open. We lost power. I have a Win11 box with all SSD.
Today I startup Kicad and it asked if I want to use the default configuration, it states no old configuration could be found.
I tried recuva but it could not find any deleted Kicad related files. So all is gone. Has this happened to anyone else? If the file was open when we lost power I would expect it to be shown by recuva as a minimum.
Well, with the way kicad works, the settings are stored in %APPDATA%\kicad
even if the program or PC crashes, there’ll be something there, at worse,t he old version.
Now, in Windows land, what could have happened is your PC crashed and your windows user profile corrupted.
Go to C:\Users, make sure there is only a single folder with your name on it and not two. Windows has this automatic “fix” behavior where it creates a new profile directory without telling you when it gets faced with a corrupted registry.
