5.1.4 to 5.1.5 upgrade looses 3D models

Thought such a minor number upgrade wouldn’t cause problems so I did it. However all my 3D models seem to be missing. What gives. Should I be keeping my own library somewhere that doesn’t get dumped every time I upgrade?

Your personal assets should never be inside the system directories! (There is a reason you need root or admin rights to write to this place)

Place your personal assets somewhere within your normal data storage section

Also don’t add your 3d models to kicad libraries. Model references are stored in footprints and if you change official footprints they will be overwritten by next update (if you chose to install libraries).
Copy official footprints to your own library and add 3d models there.

Thanks for the help. I’m re-reading the FAQ library sections again.(Like I’ve done and messed up every time I upgrade:( I was able to recover the loss by removing the libraries from the trash and putting back where they were. I do have most of my 3D files in my document directory but…

I’ll get back when I better know what I have where and how it got there.
