3d modules not visible in KiCad 7.0.1 3d viewer

Hi, I have downloaded KiCad 7.0.1 on macOS. I have used KiCad 6 before.

I have made a new project in KiCad 7 and 3d models are not shown in the 3d viewer. I have read all other issues I could find but they do not solve my issue.

  • Only when I use the footprint editor, select a footprint and open the 3d viewer I can see the model.
  • When I export an STEP of the board (which does not show 3d models in the 3d viewer) all models are there. It is just the 3d viewer which does not show it.
  • Yes all buttons for showing the models are on.
  • The issue is there for library footprints and custom footprints.
  • On KiCad 6 the issue is not there, I can view all models in the 3d viewer of the board.

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that these buttons are checked:

Yes, those are checked. But if I toggle either one it keeps saying ‘loading model X’ in the bottom left corner, which nevers happens.

@Seth_h do you have any other suggestions I could try?

Is your Preferences/Toggle options enabled in the 3d viewer? Which I guess is the same as Seth mentioned.

Yes that’s the same as Seth mentioned so they are all on.
