3D Models - what is recommended way to make them?

I’m using KiCad 6.0.11 on Windows 10 but getting ready to upgrade KiCad.

I’d like to be able to make my own 3D models for parts. I looked through the docs but can’t seem to find info on how to made 3D models. I’m assuming there’s some external tool I’d need to learn, and I found that VRML formats are used, but I couldn’t find anything that said “you should use tool X, make the body meet these rules, and export using format Y and your model will work.”

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Links to examples or tutorials would be great.

Thanks,
Lloyd

This should be simple for you :grinning: try ’ Freecad’ as this has facilities to get you started and Kicad and Freecad are best friends (Mostly) and you will find in Freecad a section called ‘Step up’ don’t quote me ! :grinning:
