3D models from photo

Hello guys. I would like to ask if there is any way to make 3D models from photos. Is there any recommended app ? Based on the recommendation from ChatGPT I tried Polycam but it always end up with “Failed” message in the app with no details.

I would need to make som 3D models of several inductances and tandem-match.

What resolution are the photographs ? do you have shots from more than one direction ? what accuracy are you hoping for ?

No dimensions, no 3D.

E.g. polycam app recommendation is 50+ photos from all possible angles made directly by mobile phone via the app. You can also make video. The recommendation then was to export 3D object to blender, where you can make probably other adjustmenrs, scaling… and export for KiCad.

Trust me!*)
You will have a bazillion of triangles that are of no use and a 3D-model that is blown up.
Use your calipers or the manufacturer’s drawings and make a simple 3D-model of that inductor in your preferred 3D-CAD. You don’t get paid for replicating stickers and the assembler’s attached & lost hairs.
Or even simpler, look wether the manufacturer has a model.

Decades ago, I reconstructed a 2 cylinder Diesel engine (one of the first from 1913, 2 * 100 l volume, IIRC 14 m long and almost 4 m high, 300 pictures). I had 700 reference points and reconstructed the engine within that cloud. Numbers from faded memory!

Its possible, you can use Trellis 3D, not a cad model but a 3d model nonetheless. How useful it is is another thing since you have no knowledge of scale.

You can also do photogrametry form several images. ITs a good way of ensuring you have all the right dimensions at hand when you didnt understand to measure them. But with no baseline measurement no scale. Though if you have a lidar thats another thing.

None of this solves your problem though

If referring to “Inductor’s”, there are several types/shapes/etc - you haven’t indicated any geometry…

Most of them in a ‘coil’ related shape are very easy to model. FreeCAD is a good tool to learn.

And, if just wanting a 3D-Graphic, you can use other Programs such as LibreOffice (the embedded Draw program)

Example I made in FreeCAD

We don’t actually know what the problem is/was . . . the OP didn’t tell us, just asked about going from pictures → 3D CAD without explaining why ?
