Hi
I need to achieve a new project, we have to select 3 different options. I guess the better and easy way to use 3 option switches. Could you guys suggest me with footprint any of the components that come default with Kicad 5.1.3
thanks.
Hi @whynot2018
i am not quite shure what your asking.
If i got it right you want a tripe throw triple pole switch ( 3 contacts which each switch between 3 positons)if so you need to tell us more about what you actually want to switch in order to get a suitable answer.
- What Voltage?
- What amperage?
- How often will you actuate the switch?
- Is the Load capacitiv or inductive?
- Any special requirement, like harsh enviromen for example?
I don’t think there’s such combination in the libraries. You have to make them. It’s better to find the physical component first and then make it for KiCad. SW_SP3T could be a good starting point for the symbol; it may be necessary to change the pin numbers to match the datasheet’s pins. The footprint shouldn’t be too difficult. In an easy case you just place 4 or 6 pads in a row. There are detailed instructions in the FAQ section of this forum, and it’s better to learn to make your own components anyways.
thanks a lot, I found that switch.
There are so many reasons why this is the best approach.
It really does not make good sense to use an existing Footprint simply because it is an existing Footprint in KiCad’s libraries.
