11x17 Printing on Hp Wide Format printer

Hello,
A very new user of KiCad and liking it very much - what little I’ve come to understand so far. Have encountered a pretty basic problem which am wondering if it is unique to my hardware/software or perhaps more generally a problem to others.

When I try to print a schematic drawing created with the 11x17 paper size (landscape) I loose both the left and right margins of the drawing. The loss includes the left and right drawing frames and any wire which happens to be really close to the drawing frame (edge of drawing). If I select a custom paper size of 11x16.5 (believe the system actually converts this to 11x16) then everything prints fine with adequate room on the left and right margins to have printed the full 11x17. Anyone else see this or any suggestions?

Win 7, 64 bit
HP OfficeJet 7110 series wide format printer (so far haven’t found anything in the print driver which might address the issue.)

Thanks!

Ray

@greenbean,
Printing always was les than stellar in Kicad…
You can try to export the schematics in pdf format and print from adobe acrobat. Or export to SVG and work with it in Inkscape or other vector editor.

Thanks for the response. In your reply you used the word “export”. I can’t find any place in the program to do an export. I did print to PDF. If I tell Adobe to print actual size then I end up with the same problem. If I tell Adobe to “Shrink to Fit” then I end up with the whole thing but with 1" margins on the left and right and 3/4" margins on the top and bottom. So that is, at least, a way to get the whole thing slightly reduced but certainly useable. Have no experience with SVG but expect it would come up with the same issues.

Again, thanks for the help!

By export I wanted to direct you to file/plot menu, you can choose the output format there…

Got it! Thanks much.

Ray

Sorry for not telling the menu name right away, I was on a commute and didn’t have Kicad with me so called it whatever I could remember :slight_smile:

Certainly no problem - thanks again!
