Where to discuss autorouter/placer?

Cool. Let’s make a button for it.

Something tells me the devs would rather put up with the complaints over lack of autorouter than the endless “bug” reports a simplistic implementation would generate.

It’s more than that. All of the interesting R&D in routing these days is going into interactive routers – and I mean in the commercial space. All the big commercial EDA tools have been spending years making interactive routing better, because they realized that this is the path to efficient and high-quality routing. You use the human for the parts that are really hard for a computer to understand, and use the computer to make the human’s life easy by doing “little things” automatically. One example of this is so-called “sketch routing” / “scribble routing” available in tools like Cadence Allegro and Mentor Xpedition. Better interactive routing / “human-guided autorouting” is the direction we see things going.

But it was an epic flight despite that!

Well, once we get 5% of the budget of a single failed Starship test, we might give the new autorouter a try. RIght @craftyjon?

Already exists: image

This is actually a bit better than what qu1ck suggests because you don’t have to rip up all the traces before you reroute them, so you save 50% of the effort.
