STEP file corrupting on import to Solidworks (but not freecad)

I went through the file and removed all .wrl models previously thinking that might be a problem, and it still does it. I’ve been removing .wrl links in my components because solidworks/etc can’t really use them.

Have you tried resetting templates, as others had success with that?

My experience (not using templates) was that Solidworks (an older version) STEP import was buggy

I opened your STEP file in Solidworks 2021 SP5.1 . . .

I took the liberty of making the PCB green.

Try closing Solidworks down, run it from fresh and then open your STEP file . . .

Man, I feel like a bit of an idiot and/or jerk wasting people’s time, because just restarting solidworks did it…

wtf

Solidworks caches some parts of the STEP files and doesn’t free them up when you close the file. So the next STEP file you open can have objects from another STEP file in it. At least this is what I think is causing this behaviour, I’ve been caught out by it before . . . and learned how to work around it.

I save all my STEP files that I want to open in Solidworks as Solidworks parts now . . .
