Silkscreen Overlap and Batch Adjustments

Hi all -

I’m still learning KiCad, so I apologize if these questions are obvious:

  1. The values of my components seem to be, by default, printed to a “F. Fab” layer - which is not visible in my final 3D render. I read elsewhere on the forum that I could individually click each one of them and change the properties so that they print on the front or back Silkscreen layer?

  2. I notice that having overlapping silkscreens flags an error. If I like overlapping silkscreens, is it still possible to have boards printed that way or will it create a manufacturing error?

Thanks!

No manufacturing problem, just a readability issue. See: Are overlapping silkscreen prints a problem?

change the properties so that they print on the front or back Silkscreen layer

  1. Edit -> Edit Text and Graphic Properties...
  2. In Scope select Values.
  3. In Filters Filter Items by Layer: and select F.Fab (then B.Fab)
4.In Action, Set to specific values: change Layer to F.Silkscreen then B.Silkscreen.

overlapping silkscreens flags an error

No, it generates a warning, not an error. Most board houses will just flatten the silk. It helps prevent an unreadable mess.
