It is still very raw, lots of bugs, tried it, didn’t like it again, broken 3D view of some boards, incomprehensible conversion of boards from Altium, etc. Everything is as it was at the beginning of version 8, where after about six months it could be used, plus non-working plugins from version 8 to 9 IMHO
What do you expect from a release candidate? Why do you jump onto nightly if you are unsatified?
I didn’t say that I was switching, I installed it for testing, I found errors, a significant slowdown in 3D rendering compared to version 7, and many other errors. And we, like everyone else, are waiting for the fast operation of new functions without breaking old ones.
Hope you report some bugs on gitlab, because there are no known issues with 3D view or Altium import compared to V8. I use 8.99 / 9.0-rc1 for Altium import and 3D viewing/export and haven’t noticed any problems (in fact Altium import works better in 9.0 than in 8.0 in my testing)
I have already reported, but the most interesting thing is that rendering in 3D of the same board takes three times longer than in version 7, large step models are processed for quite a long time
From my observations, this started with version 8 when a new renderer appeared.
I can’t find any reports for speed of the 3D viewer, or any other serious problems with it. I also can’t find any reports of 8.99 / 9.0 having problems importing Altium boards that worked in 8.0.
There is no new renderer in V8 though?
They are all closed because there is no simple way to fix this. I will give an example.
Rendering the board in version 8 takes 19 seconds, in version 9 20 seconds (plus errors in displaying models), version 7 8 seconds. Rendering versions 8 and 9 is different, the file converter in the archive was changed, you can try it yourself.
Left: 9.0, took 26 seconds to render,
Right: 7.0, took 29 seconds to render:
Why some models are wrong - see:
Incorrect display of 3D models with Altium board import - Software - KiCad.info Forums
Also I don’t see where you’ve filed this on GitLab. Posting on forum usually doesn’t do much to have the issue fixed.
My rendering values are completely different in version 7, in version 8 and 9 the 3D viewing window freezes during rendering. It also depends on caching when the render is first launched.
I also noticed that in version 9, the folder of models 3 is not compatible in offline mode, unlike 8 and 7.
This is probably not bad when you have been working in Altium for 10 years or more, but for those who will be looking at old projects in version 9, it is not good at all) IMHO I have not yet checked how this affects the appearance of projects from version 7-8, but it would be interesting
After saving the PCB file and re-opening the PCB editor:
- 7.0 took 8.185 s
- 9.0 took 7.977 s
After re-opening just the 3D viewer, both 7.0 and 9.0 took about 0.6 s.
The view freezes in all versions while loading.
Try to rephrase this.
After rendering in 9, a folder with 3D models does not appear, unlike in version 8
After changing the name of the model, it appears in the 3D viewer, but its color is green instead of black. Is this normal behavior?
If you select a footprint in the PCB editor, it will be highlighted in green in the 3D viewer.
This has been a feature since 6.0.
this is true, but if you don’t highlight it, the model becomes white instead of black.
Which model? --------
model_21 For example (Network transformer)
If you open it in freecad it is black
It shows up with #cad1ee
color in CAD Assistant (the reference OpenCASCADE’s 3D viewer)
Same color in FreeCAD:
Show me a screenshot where it’s black in Altium even.
