Consider the existence of both SMT and DIP versions of the same ICs.
One of the first things I had to do when I started playing with KiCAD was create my own schematic symbols for some ICs that are not in general use these days. It took a bit of frustration, but I eventually got the hang of it.
You’re entitled to your opinion. I just finished creating two PC boards for a project and they are currently in production at a board house as I type.
