Moving footprints in PCBnew

I hereby certify that I am not simply asking someone else to design a footprint for me.

This is an auto-generated message that is in place on the “footprints” section of the KiCad.info forum. If I remove it and ask for a footprint to be designed anyway, I understand that I will be subject to forum members telling me to go design my own footprint or referring me to a 3rd party footprint site.

Hello,

I am fairly new to KiCAD and I am working on my first project. When I first started my layout, I was able to move a footprint by simply highlighting it and pressing m. However, that is not the case anymore. When I box a component to highlight it, it instead surrounds the component with a yellow box and then a pop up appears that says “Block Operation”. I attached an image of this below. I can still move the component doing this but it is more clunky and inefficient than the other way. Also, I used to be able to place a track fairly easy by just connecting two points. Now the track is translucent and requires me to right click and press end track to make the connection. Did I accidentally change a setting without realizing? How can I revert this? Thank you.

You might have switched to the legacy toolset. To get back to the modern one use F11

That fixed it. Thank you so much!

You need not to highlight element. Just press ‘m’ when your cursor is on the element.
