I have installed the new KiCad however as always, I am having trouble migrating my global libraries.
How Can i migrate libraries across version, so it keeps the correct library links and 3D model links? More is it possible to keep the library descriptions from previous versions?
I have more than 50 libraries so doing this manually is a pain
Well, the good news is you do not have to touch 3D. Those models are attached to the footprints in both your personal and Kicad libraries.
I keep all my schematic libraries in a single folder and footprint libraries in another folder, so all I need to do is use my operating system to duplicate and name the folders thereby preserving my old Version 8 libraries for posterity or whatever.
Finally, yes it is a bit of a pain loading the newly named folder of libraries into Kicad 9, but it really is only a 5 to 10 min. job for either Schema or PCB.
Once the “Manage Libraries” is opened it is a quick job to click the +, click the Path, click the folder at the RH end, double click the now showing library, then repeat.
When all the personal library paths are loaded, I go back and type in their nicknames.
I have 57 personal footprint and symbol libraries.
My method of creating and using personal libraries can be found in the FAQ section of this forum.
Hi jmk, I’m not able to find your post and I have no idea how libraries are best organized
I keep all sch/footprints in a folder called “kicad parts” on my desktop.
I’ve just updated to Kicad 9 and none of my custom/ downloaded parts came with the update. A current schematic no longer is linked to the parts.
Where can I find my library edits from Kicad 8?
