I am on KiCAD 7 at novice level - should I upgrade to kiCAD 8 or wait a bit? I have created my own library with about 25 parts in it (schematic symbols and then associated PCB footprints). Will I lose this library if I upgrade?
Thanks

Your library will be converted to the v8 format when you open it with v8,
the same will happen to schematics and pcbs.
You will not be able to reopen with V7 after that so back it up first.
In my opinion 7 → 8 is worth the risk. i’ve done that and i’m fine. you decide.
(but back up everything )
btw, 7 & 8 can live along side on the same machine, but a higher attention must be payed in order to not convert to V8 stuff you don’t want to. i prefer jump fully ahead and forget the past.
IMO, don’t hesitate to upgrade to KiCad 8.0, maybe a few days unil the arrival of version 8.0.1.
You can migrate your own library through copying it to KiCad8’s appropriate directory.
You will need to tell KiCad 8 where to find your custom libraries . . .
