KiCAD 5.99 (OSX) crashes when opening Footprint Properties

Hello, this is my first time posting, so please bare with me. I have searched for a similar problem, but nothing has come up that solves my problem.

Out of the blue, without doing any upgrades or updates, 5.99 has started crashing for me on OSX, to the point where it is totally unusable. The problem seems to only happen when opening ‘footprint properties’ from PCB Editor. The rest, including the 3d viewer, seems to be working just fine.

Has anyone found similar problems? Also is there a better place to ask this question, and what information can I provide to help give you all a clear picture, i am attaching my version info below.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, I am seeing the same crashing in the same version of KiCad on macOS.

I can open a demo file like pic_programmer in the PCB Editor and edit tracks etc. and interact with the Schematic (in a separate window on a dual monitor), but if I mouse over a footprint and press “E” to edit its properties KiCad immediately crashes with a segmentation violation. I can attach a crash report dump if that will be useful to the developers.

I have been waiting for a new nightly version, but I get an “Internal Server Error” when I try to view the latest nightly version at https://downloads.kicad.org/kicad/macos/explore/nightlies.

I just read this forum topic that sort of explains the missing macOS nightlies: MacOS nightly build situation

Hopefully it is available again soon.

Aside from the occasional crashes it seems pretty solid. Navigation with my trackpad is much much better that version 5.1.10.

All is well on Linux.

@isol8 & @Dennisch ,
Will probably have to wait a while 'till someone familiar with Mac turns up.

I came here to report/look into the same issue. Is there a “stable” (even if older) release of 5.99 available for mac?

There is now a macOS nightly available at https://downloads.kicad.org/kicad/macos/explore/nightlies

It is reporting the same version that I installed, so I suspect it has the same crashing bug.

There is now a much newer build

I have downloaded and installed the new 2100908 version and I can confirm the crash upon editing a footprint has been fixed.

Thanks.

Thank you - I can also confirm that the issue is no longer occurring on Mac OS 11.5.2 running on the M1. Much appreciated.
