It would be wonderful if can save, import and export design rules for Pcbnew

So far I’ve use and very happy with kicad so much. Powerful and productivity. Use this to layout 5 boards already by now.
So impress with interactive routing. It a real time saving. (if I can push and shove trace by drag component also it will be nice! waiting for this feature!)

For the topic here:
If there is a way to save resign rule in pcbnew and can import setting can be very nice! Since I can do like save a design template “normal pcb” “small and dense pcb” “for testing pcb” each have it own setting design rule that sometime come from testing, research or adjust from previous project and ready for next project.

I can live without it and take a note of the rule and manual setting it. But if there is a way to save setting or export to file and import those setting into next layout. Will be so nice!

Thank you

Just a heads up:

  • Most forum members are mere KiCAD users who try to help each other with the software. (Most developers do not regularly visit this forum.)
  • Wishes for features need to be posted on the bugtracker with ‘wishlist’ as tag
  • Pure wishes, without support by a Dev or a patch ready to go into the KiCAD code have a very small chance of ever being implemented.
    Sorry & good luck.

The side to report bugs/wishes can be found under:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad
(In case you want to post there, search for 15 minutes if anyone else has already posted a similar wish. If so: mark it with “this bug affects me too” instead of creating a duplicate bug.)

Here also the link to the official how to page for reporting “bugs”: https://kicad.org/help/report-a-bug/

I just remembered you can already do something similar with templates:
http://docs.kicad.org/4.0.5/en/kicad.html#_templates

Just create a user template with your design rule settings and make each project you want with these settings with this template.
There is no way i know of to import design rules into an existing project.

Maybe this workaround is at least a bit of a help for you.

Probably script-able from within PCBnew, definitely script-able from outside with python/etc. (restart of KiCAD needed).

@nquantum
hit up these guys and see if they think it’s possible and how you should do this…

Thank
Template seem to be good work around. And now I know where to go to message developer , those page.
Also thank to Joan_Sparky ,script to me seem to be too much for now. Maybe I look for it sometime later.
