Yeah… that is the conceptual error that I had made prompting my ninja-edit to my first reply in this post.
Pins that can switch between Input and Output are called bidirectional.
For bidirectional pins the “Hi-Z” part is usually ignored, because electrically it is (very nearly) identical to when the pin is used as an input.
