Freerouting 2.0 wo'nt open on MacOS

I’m getting this error in which immediately after the program is shutting down.
What can It be and how it is possible to fix?

Another question I have - how is it possible to update the Freerouting plug inside kicad from version 1.9 to version 2.0?

Freerouting is not part of KiCad but an external application with a plugin to interface to KiCad so you’d have to ask on the Freerouting Github site.

I notice that the freerouting plug come with kicad 8 is 1.9. How can I update it?

It looks like the latest available via KiCad is 1.9, if you want something later go to the Developer direct or via their Github pages . . .

When trying to install (downloaded installer (.dmg) from GitHub) on both latest Ventura, latest Sonoma and latest Sequoia this is all that shows up.

I guess it means the current Freerouting plugin is not compatible with any of these OS’s

The .dmg opens on my Sonoma machine.
The Freerouting app runs, if you choose right-click->open, to bypass code signing.
But, it gets some logger error, which I’m not going to bother figuring out how to fix right now.

But - Freerouting questions should be asked on Github - it’s not a Kicad project.

Yes, the DMG opens, and the "freerouting.app can be moved into the applications folder, but then it can’'t be run. Sorry, I don’t know how to discuss this on gitHub so I will wait and see if the installer might get available as an update inside KiCad. Good luck, the previous Freerouting has been doing a good job, it has been fast and easy to use, let’s hope this to be even better in the next version!

This is what shows up when doing as you suggest/right click+open.

not supported

Edit: I also tested it on an old Catalina machine, with exactly the same result.

Probably it was built for x86 macs and does not support arm64 (M-series) macs.

I wouldn’t wait around for that, KiCad will not be distributing Freerouting.

I have an Intel Mac, maybe that’s the problem.

Download the correct image.

Thanks, where is that to be found? I did a search, no success.

Looks like the .dmg files have been pulled (at least, i couldn’t find them again), but the jar file is still there.
You can download that and screw around for a couple of hours getting it working or…

You could just route the board manually, like everyone here recommends, and do a better job than an autorouter. You would have been done three days ago.

I will try myself. As this my first time it is looks almost as mission impossible but I guess it takes time and practice

Yeah, the DMG is gone as it seems, and the thing is not I want to autoroute, I’m simply interested in the software, what it does, what the developers has come up with, once again, this may be a case of progression.

“I wouldn’t wait around for that, KiCad will not be distributing Freerouting.”

What does that mean?

You said you would wait and see in case “the installer might get available as an update inside KiCad”

What I mean is, that won’t happen, KiCad itself is not going to bundle the Freerouting installer.

I think he meant that the external plugin would update to 2.0. That is not inside KiCad in the sense of being in the KiCad project, but we’ll have to put that down to English not being his primary language.

Ok. Don’t know if I understand this or not. This “Freerouting” has so far been available as a plugin to install and update from within Kicad but now something has changed? What is the difference now, from Freerouting 2.0?

I think a plugin author has to take some steps to release a plugin version via PCM. It doesn’t happen automatically after a Github release. Anyway please direct enquiries to the Github site, as it’s not a KiCad issue. Since the DMG was pulled, the author is probably aware of the problem so chill out.

Ok, thanks. This means the KiCad team (developers) didn’t discard this plugin, the KiCad team just wait until the developer of the plugin might be ready to release it through Kicad?
