I have created 2 PCB layout files for a different design and now would like to combine them into a single board and send to pcbway for fabrication. My question is " Both design have their own Edge Cuts so can I keep both PCB side by side ? Or need to create a new Edge cut boundary for both together "?
Do you have a specific reason why you want them combined? If not, handle them as completely separate project. If yes, please explain further why you need to combine them.
I just had one last quick question, if I have to do V-Score then the individual outline should be of Drawing (Dwgs) and enclosed with edgecuts, But how do I represent the v cut are with?
You’ll find that typically the fab requires that all the outlines (both outer and interpanel) be on the EdgeCuts layer, there is no requirement to have lines in the Dwgs layer(s). Remember that V-cuts must be edge to edge, so if your panels differ in size… For V-cuts some fabs will charge you more, some won’t.
Also the 3D board viewer will complain about polygons but will still render the board.
How do i represent v-cut in the layout ? As of now the requirement from the fab is there should be 1.6mm space for v-cut.
So is it ok if i leave 2mm (to be on the safer side) empty space between 2 design ? or should i draw something to represent that 2mm v-cut are ?
As an edge to edge line in the EdgeCuts layer. You don’t need to represent the padding space. It will be there if you have separated the panels sufficiently. That recommended distance is really to keep traces away from the cut. In practice the cut is barely visible at first glance.
Basically, choose between either approach - use what’s preferred by PCB fab house…
You can specify what you want using notes to supplier when placing the order. A sketch/drawing will help. Put as many Holding Tabs as needed. I show only ‘one’ in image below.
Both choices are shown below. The term “Kerf” is what the gap is called (common for Saws, Lasers, Water-Jet cutting)
