I can confirm that this works on Linux Mint 22. This just happened to me after I run autoremove i think. Installing libocct-modeling fixed it for me
@Jason_Krinder and @tdarlic, I installed libocct-modeling-algorithms-7.6t64
alright, Ubuntu 24.04 warned me I was downgrading the package, and then I got to the point KiCAD could be installed, but I did not proceed to install it. Soon afterwards, the Ubuntu updater wanted to update libocct. If I install KiCAD with the downgraded libocct, do I have to place an update hold on that library? My current KiCAD installation is from flatpak because of all these problems.
On your place if you already have a working Flatpak installation I would bother with the libraries.
You can always try to install and see if it works. If not go back to flatpack until they fix this.
I have just now realized that I cannot install Freecad because of this library.
Have either of you tried the solution in the first post? What was the effect of that? I have kicad and freecad installed without issue now… it just needed sorting out as described in that post. (But of course I don’t really understand what was wrong in the first place so I have no idea if the fix would be at all universal.)
no, I didn’t try it exactly as I read it back. unfortunately, I cannot remember what issue I was having when I followed it imprecisely. So, it might be indeed a good solution.

Looking at the official FreeCAD Ubuntu PPA, FreeCAD Stable Releases : “FreeCAD maintainers” team, I see that the latest commit there is from last July. I think the dependency problem occurred after that? Has anybody managed to install the FreeCAD and KiCAD stable latest versions from the PPAs?
I just tried (normally I run freecad via AppImage) but it wouldn’t start due to a wayland error, so I’m not sure, but it didn’t give any missing library errors when starting so that seems like a good sign.
Edit: same version via AppImage works fine.
