I saw Board setup control file , which suggests configuring your board using a template file. Are there existing template files that provide the correct configuration for various production houses? I use JLCPCB, it would be nice to be certain that I am using their capabilities efficiently. I suppose it would need 1-layer, 2-layer, 4-layer and multi-layer versions.

It’s an old idea and here’s a shelved repo: Project templates for selected fabs The latest commit across all clones is 2 years old.
It would be better if in future the production houses could maintain config files themselves, via a content plugin.

Agree best solution would be for fabs to provide their own template/config file.

One thing…I would forget about 1-layer. I do not remember seeing that from JLCPCB.
I did design 1 or 2 single layer boards when I worked in Thailand about 25 years ago. I think those were made on phenolic material rather than FR4.
They do the metal backed and ceramic exotica

The JLCPCB front page gives you a choice of 1, 2, 4, 5 … and of course you can have other numbers, once you get inside

OK; color me “surprised”. I would say that I stand corrected but I am seated at the moment.

It’s actually 1, 2, 4 and 6 (not 5). Other layer options are indeed pretty much all even numbers up to 32)
