Single Footprint for two devices

I want to have a 20 pin SOIC package that will be DNP while I’m testing PLD programming (for the device that will be populated there).

There’s enough space in the footprint to place headers for connection to the emulation board. So, I want to place a footprint inside another.

Is there a “slick” way to deal with this, or am I just going to have to ignore DRC errors?

There are many different connector types. It’s up to you to find a connector that fits. One of the best solutions may be to use two 10 pin FFC Connector with the same pitch as your SOIC. You may be able to solder these directly on the SOIC pads with no (or with minimal) modifications.

For a one-off you can also solder 0.2mm enameled wires directly to the pads. It looks ugly but it’s quite reliable as long as the wires do not move too much
