Requests for ubuntu "PPA for KiCad 4.0"

Hi,
I installed 4.0.0-rc2 on my Ubuntu 15.10 via ppa:js-reynaud/kicad-4.
And I can use KiCad 4.0.0 rc2 successfully.
Thanks for building the binary packages for Ubuntu.

Then I noticed 2 packaging issues.

  1. i18n files are old
    I checked /usr/share/kicad/internat/ja/kicad.po, and
    I saw “PO-Revision-Date: 2015-09-13 22:02+0900\n”.
    I wish latest kicad.po and kicad.mo will be included in the rc2 package for all languages.

  2. docs are old.
    All the English pdf files are installed under the /usr/share/doc/kicad/help/en/,
    and I could access them by Help menu.
    But, all pdf files are old one.

Now, I’m waiting for all the packages are organized for 15.10.
At this time, status of PPA 4.0 for 15.10 is like this.

kicad - 4.0.0-0rc2.201511171653+6189~33~ubuntu15.10.1 is still old, since …

  • it contains kicad-common, still
  • kicad-demo is not included
  • inludes old docs in it

kicad - 4.0.0-1rc2.201511182116+6189~38~ubuntu14.04.1 is new package, since …

  • it contains only kicad, kicad-dbg and kicad-demo.

I’m looking forward the new package for 15.10.

Wily version are under building process. At the end you should have:

kicad version 4.0.0-1rc2

kicad-doc-en and kicad-library should be installed automaticaly (recommended dependancy, but not an “hard” dep)

Manualy you should install:
kicad-demo, kicad-locale-XX, kicad-doc-XX (doc in other language than EN)

Thanks for updating the ppa:js-reynaud/kicad-4.
I could confirm that latest i18n file and latest docs were installed successfully.

I installed by this command, since I need japanese GUI and docs and demo projects.

$ sudo apt-get install kicad kicad-demo kicad-locale-ja kicad-doc-ja

installed i18n GUI file is latest from https://github.com/KiCad/kicad-i18n .
included docs are latest from https://github.com/KiCad/kicad-doc .

I think kicad-doc-pkg and kicad-library-pkg should be removed from

  • PPA for KiCad 4.0
  • PPA for KiCad daily builds
