New Project using KiCAD - The Serial Squid

I’m making an open source PCB which has a quite unique shape. It’s called the Serial Squid.

How to draw a Squid (project blog link)

I come from a long background using commercial PCB layout packages, starting with DOS ORCAD in the 80’s to PCAD, PADS, etc., in more modern times. I decided to try hard to make this project using as much open source tools as possible, which means I’m using KiCAD for the first time. The weird shapes and angles have really been a challenge, making my first KiCAD design much harder than the normal novice. I’m almost done, and I have survived.

Probably too late, but this is a lot easier if you import .dxf from, say, Freecad or similar to your board outline layer.

Congrats on surviving, you’ve likely done a lot of math to get that shape right!

Oh, I definitely DID import this board layout from a DXF file. I use Draftsight, the AutoCAD 2D clone.
