In Search of Battery PSpice Model

I am trying to properly model battery discharge. KiCad does offer a battery footprint, but the simulation won’t run without the battery modeled. Is there such a thing as a properly modeled battery in KiCad? I looked around the internet and I couldn’t get a solid yes on that question. I am specifically trying to model this 3.7V battery.

Would I be better off keeping my simulation with a 3.7V input voltage in place of the battery?

What properties of the battery do you want to simulate? Series resistance? A nearly drained battery with lower output voltage? Battery charging? Normally you adjust the schematic for the specific simulation you want to do at that time.

Ah ok. I want to model a battery at different voltages and therefore states of charge. Would I be better off just using a simple voltage source?

A (constant) voltage source would be the simplest model for a battery. You can add more details later.

I was using PSpice since 90s to about 2010. I have never used that feature but I remember there were a possibility to get series of simulations with some parameters being changed between simulations. Parametrizing voltage (and may be ESR) you should be able to get in one step a set of simulations for different battery charge states.

The answer is a solid ‘no’.

KiCad typically does not provide spice models, except for some basic devices listed in the Simulation_SPICE library.

Of course you may use a simple voltage source for testing the circuit, but it will never discharge like a battery does.

Modeling batteries is somewhat complex and still done by researchers. A recent article is this (google ‘spice model for battery’): https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1073/18/17/4709 .

You may ask the vendor GlobTek for a spice model for the specific battery type you have selected.
