Coming back to KiCad after having to use Altium and Cadstar

Coming back to doing some PCB design for my own little company as opposed to being on site and having to use what I am told to use, I am really struck just what a good, intuitive UI kicad has. Not only that, is is really fast and snappy.

Compare that to what seems to be the industry’s favourite child at the moment in Altium , I am especially struck on how much nicer kicad is to use. Altium is so slow and impossibly convoluted in comparison. I am wishing for very little in klcad compared to Altium (or Cadstar).

This forum is immense too, the speed of reply and the friendliness of people in general is noticeable.

I am sure there are some very specialised features in Altium that are missing from kicad, but in my experience, most people I have worked for over the years would very happily be able to use kicad to suit all their needs and I’m sure that the abilities of kicad will steadily improve as well.

Many thanks to the devs who are contributing to and making this great piece of software ever better.

It has sometimes been impressive to see how much time some members will spend to help someone else, that is on the other side of the Interwebs, to get them a solution to their problem.
